Sound! Euphonium Finale

A few days ago, I watched the second part of the Sound! Euphonium movie. The first part was released about six months ago, and I also went to the cinema to watch it, receiving a short novel written by Takeda-sensei as a gift. The first part can be said to be almost just a recap of the TV series, covering the minister's disqualification and reconciliation. Viewers know that the final outcome of the anime is that Kumiko and Reina never get to perform together until the end. In the novel's conclusion, Reina ultimately chooses Kumiko's euphonium over Mayu's at the selection meeting, and they perform a solo together at the national competition, winning the gold medal. The anime changed the ending, which sparked significant controversy in China during its broadcast, and I was also left feeling unsatisfied. When I finished watching the first part, I hoped that the second part would change the ending and surprise the audience.

The second part has finally been released. The ending still hasn't changed.

However, my dissatisfaction was unexpectedly resolved, and the following may contain spoilers.

The second part of the movie features many animations not present in the series, and the production team adjusted the editing pace. It highlighted the emotional lines between Kumiko and Mayu, as well as Kumiko and Kanade. These adjustments and additions transformed the film from a yuri series with an NTR ending into a coming-of-age story about a youth club pursuing their dreams. Reina's choice shifted from cheating on Kumiko to respecting Kumiko's determination.

The final symphonic performance was substantial, featuring a medley of all the ensembles from the K-On! series, making it very enjoyable to watch. The K-On! series, after facing a major disaster and being unable to complete for a time, has finally reached a satisfying conclusion.
